First Impressions of the iTel S24 Budget Smartphone

I’ve just received the new budget smartphone from iTel, the S24, to review. Based on my initial inspection and testing, here are my first impressions:

Design and Build Quality

The iTel S24 has a plastic body which helps keep the weight down to a reasonable 192g. It feels sturdy enough for a budget phone. I like the slim 8.3mm thickness which makes it comfortable to hold. It comes in Black, Blue, and White color options.

Display

The 6.6-inch LCD has an HD+ resolution of 720×1612 pixels. The screen is decently bright at up to 480 nits and supports a faster 90Hz refresh rate. The colors look good for a budget phone.

Performance

Under the hood is the MediaTek Helio G91 processor paired with 4GB or 8GB of RAM. This should provide decent performance for basic tasks. I didn’t experience any lag when navigating the interface or switching between apps in my initial tests. Gamers will appreciate the Mali-G52 GPU.

Cameras

The main highlight is the large 108MP rear camera which can capture good detail. It’s backed by a flash and basic features like panorama mode. Selfies are handled by an 8MP front camera. Video recording maxes out at 1080p resolution.

Battery & Charging

Battery life should be strong thanks to the sizable 5000mAh capacity. Charging speed is average at 18W but it does support bypass charging to reach 50% faster.

Software & Storage

It runs Android 13 which is disappointing considering this phone was released in 2024. You get either 128GB or 256GB of storage plus a microSD slot for expansion.

Early Verdict

For the affordable price of around 120 euros, the iTel S24 seems like a capable budget smartphone. Performance is decent, battery life should be good and you get a 108MP main camera. The software is outdated and the lack of 5G has downsides. More testing is needed but first impressions are promising.
